Aberdeen International Airport is only a short 9.3 km drive from the city centre, and you can easily get there via the A96 Aberdeen-Inverness road. You can also take a 30 minute bus ride from Guild Street Bus Station to the airport terminal building. History Of Aberdeen Airport

Aberdeen Airport opened in 1934 by Eric Gandar Dower as a way to connect Scotland's northern islands with the British mainland. But with World War II breaking out in 1939, the Royal Air Force took over and renamed it RAF Dyce. It was used for photographic reconnaissance, and even famously received a defecting German bomber in 1943! The crew provided loads of valuable intel to the Allied forces, and their plane is now on display in London's RAF Museum. Over the last 60 years, Aberdeen Airport has been continuously developed and revamped. It went 24-hour in 2005 and had its runway extended in 2011 to accommodate bigger planes. In 2014 it was acquired by AGS Airports along with Glasgow and Southampton airports. The terminal's facilities are being constantly upgraded to make way for more flights to places like the Mediterranean, North Africa and North America. Pretty cool!
