History Of Austin-bergstrom Airport
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) opened its doors to the public in 1999, at a cost of $585 million. It replaced Austin's Robert Mueller Municipal Airport which had been providing commercial flights since the 1930s. AUS was built on the site previously occupied by Bergstrom Air Force Base, named after Captain John August Earl Bergstrom. Since its construction, AUS has seen a large growth in the number of routes it offers, with two terminals now providing travelers with an array of destinations - the Barbara Jordan Terminal (BJT), named after the first African American woman from the South to be elected to Congress and the newer South Terminal (ST) which opened in 2017. So if you're looking to take off, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is the place to go!
