DSA is located in South Yorkshire, right in the middle of the UK. It's just a short three miles (5 kilometres) southeast of Doncaster and 18 miles (29 kilometres) east of Sheffield. Driving to the airport has been made even easier thanks to a dedicated road link from Junction 3 of the M18, plus there are frequent bus services connecting Doncaster, Barnsley and the surrounding area to the airport. Even though there aren't any buses from DSA to Sheffield city centre, you can still get there in half an hour or less by taking a seven-mile (11-kilometre) shuttle bus ride to Doncaster Rail Station, which is also connected to Leeds and London King's Cross in just 90 minutes. So, no matter where you're coming from, getting to Doncaster Sheffield Airport is a breeze!
History Of Doncaster Airport
Doncaster Sheffield Airport, known today as DSA, has a long and interesting history. It was founded in 1915 as Finningley Airfield and during World War I it served an important role for the Royal Flying Corps by protecting northern cities from Zeppelin raids. During World War II, it was a key training centre for RAF Bomber Command. In the early stages of the Cold War, Finningley was used to house and maintain Vulcan class bombers with nuclear arms. But in 1995 it ceased military operations and was reopened as a commercial airport ten years later, now called Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield Airport. It has an extra-large runway that was designed for military aircraft, but now supports a range of large and cargo-carrying aircraft. Even though it's the smaller of Yorkshire's two international airports, with Leeds Bradford Airport being the other, there is plenty of space at DSA for further expansion as it grows in popularity as an international gateway.

Useful Tips
Allow Plenty Of Time Before You Fly
Planning a trip from Doncaster Sheffield Airport? Make sure to arrive at least one hour before your domestic flight, two hours for European flights and three hours for long-haul journeys. Although it's smaller than other airports, the unique runway here means that you'll find plenty of large and long-haul aircraft if you're looking to go further afield. So don't forget to give yourself plenty of time to check in and get through security!
Double-check Your Tickets Before You Set Off
Make sure you print off your boarding passes before heading to DSA Airport, as it's one of the few in the UK that doesn't accept mobile bookings or boarding passes. Have them ready to go when you leave!
Sat Nav Solutions
If you're having trouble finding Doncaster Sheffield Airport on your satellite navigation system, try aiming for Hurst Lane instead. Then, simply follow the signs to the airport once you arrive there. The Great Yorkshire Way link road is also relatively new, so it might not show up on some sat navs - just come off the M18 at Junction 3 and follow the signs to the airport. You'll get there in no time!
Hotel Transport
If you're planning a trip through DSA and need a place to stay for the night, there are plenty of hotels nearby. However, there is no shuttle service from the terminal building to these hotels so you'll need to book ahead and get a taxi if you want to avoid carrying bags or having small children in tow. It's just a 10-minute walk away, so you won't have to go far. Make sure you book your taxi the night before and you'll be ready for your flight!
Thirsty Work
If you're looking for water, you can request it from any of the establishments in the terminal building and they will provide it to you in a disposable plastic cup. Unfortunately, refilling your own water bottle isn't allowed here.
Lounge Around
Heading to Doncaster Sheffield Airport soon? Make sure you check out the Premium Lounge! No matter what airline you're flying with, all travellers are welcome to take advantage of the lounge's incredible amenities. To guarantee your spot and ensure a peaceful and comfortable experience, be sure to pre-book your space in advance. Enjoy a worry-free flight!
Park Life
Heading to DSA for a drop-off or pick-up? The car park just outside the terminal can be super handy, but it's also pretty pricey. If you need extra time to say goodbye or arrive early, there's a short-stay option with 15 minutes of free parking just a few minutes away from the terminal. But be warned: don't park on the approach roads—you'll get a nasty parking charge notice (PCN)! So, take advantage of the free parking instead.
