History Of Dayton Airport
Since 1903, Dayton has been a hub for aviation thanks to the Wright brothers and their first people-carrying flying machine. In 1928, some businessmen bought 311 acres from the City of Dayton to create the Dayton Airport. Unfortunately, it didn't take off as planned - until James M. Cox, an Ohio Governor, stepped in to fundraise, get grants and make it operational again. To honor James M. Cox's efforts, the airport was renamed after him in 1952 - the James M. Cox-Dayton Municipal Airport. In 1975, it became known as the James M. Cox Dayton International Airport and since then has undergone extensive renovations to meet the demands of its passengers. It's an amazing testament to the Wright brothers' legacy and the many years of hard work put in by James M. Cox!
